Once upon a time ...

...a Norwegian colonial trader named Johan Trone Holst. At the end of the 19th century, he bought the dilapidated chocolate factory Freia in Christiania, Norway for 9,000 kroner and transformed it into a modern workplace, which soon became one of the country's leading chocolate manufacturers.

In 1916, Freia established the subsidiary Marabou, which was named after the marabou stork that adorned the chocolate packaging. The factory, which was located in Sundbyberg outside Stockholm, started chocolate production in 1919 and a new era saw the light of day!
